The purpose of the study is to develop recommendations for the optimal distribution of students between types of elective physical education in higher education
institutions based on a comprehensive assessment of the health status of students. To achieve the purpose of the study, the following methods were used: the SAN methodology, an express assessment of physical health according to V. P. Petlenko and a comprehensive assessment of physical fitness based on tests from the Ready for Work and Defense complex. Based on the results of the study, recommendations were made on the distribution of students between types of physical education based on a comprehensive assessment of their health status. During the experiment, the following results were obtained: a reliable relationship between the level of physical fitness and an express assessment of physical health according to V. P. Petlenko was revealed; the results of the SAN technique and data on heart rate variability according to R. M. Baevsky were obtained. As a conclusion, the thesis was put forward about the need to continue development in this direction in order to improve the distribution system and simplify this procedure.
