Due to climate change, increased precipitation intensity and increased flooding risks, many cities are currently upgrading their blue-green infrastructure (BGI) to work
more efficiently with surface runoff. The arrangement of the blue-green infrastructure consists in the competent grouping of various types of trees, shrubs, lawns taking into account the hydrological features of the territory, thereby allowing you to work with storm drains. Acting as a single infrastructure, reservoirs and green spaces are able to mitigate the climate in the city, increase biodiversity, deposit carbon and purify atmospheric air and water. In general, it is an effective tool for reducing various negative consequences of the urban framework. Before considering Vologda’s blue-green infrastructure, the accumulated experience of implementing BGI was analyzed and summarized. In this paper, the current state of the blue-green infrastructure is considered and combination of elements for the city experiencing difficulties in flow management, Vologda, is revealed.
