The relevance of the research is related to the objectives of the national project “Youth and Children” and the need for psychological support for students’ professional development in the context of labor market transformation. The purpose of the work is a comparative analysis of the structure and factors of professional identity (PI) among students of different fields of study with a focus on the physical culture and sports profile. The methodology is based on a quantitative approach using the MIPI methodology (L. B. Schneider), which diagnoses the types of identity (diffuse, premature, moratorium, achieved, pseudopositive). The sample consisted of 141 students from Moscow universities of various fields and 64 students from physical education (FC) faculties who did not overlap with the main group. Additionally, the motives for choosing a profession, the influence of academic disciplines, teachers and practical experience on the status of PI were
analyzed. The results show significant differences: the diffuse type prevails in the general sample (35 %), while the achieved identity dominates among FC students (70.3 %; χ2 = 65.81; p < 0.001). The key factors associated with a high level of PI among physical education students are personal sports experience (64–80 %), practice-oriented disciplines and positive interaction with teachers (73 %). Positive dynamics of identity was recorded from the first to the fourth year (t = 3.15; p < 0.05). The conclusions emphasize the need for differentiated psychological and pedagogical support for students, taking into account the learning profile and gender characteristics, as well as the expediency of monitoring professional identity at the university for timely correction of educational trajectories.
