Goal — to evaluate the impact of VR rehabilitation with elements of cognitive
behavioral therapy on situational anxiety and kinesiophobia in patients after lower limb
injuries and surgeries. Materials and methods. 60 patients were randomized into the exer-
cise therapy + VR group (n = 30) and the control group (exercise therapy only, n = 30).
The VR program combined relaxation and graduated exposure. The results were measured
after 4 weeks and after 3 months.
In the VR group, compared with the control, kinesiophobia (by 34.2 %), situational anxie-
ty (38.7 %), pain catastrophization (41.3 %) and pain when walking (58.3 %) significantly
decreased; functional status increased by 47.2 %. The effect persisted for 3 months. VR therapy
significantly surpasses standard rehabilitation in terms of its effect on psychoemotional barriers
and functions, which confirms the expediency of its clinical application.
