Annotation

This article presents an analysis of current problematic and thematic trends in the sociocultural study of physical education and sports practices as a reflection of more general research trends in social cognition. It is shown how two groups of factors — sociocultural and sociotechnological — act as significant catalysts determining the transformation of the research field. It is established that the current stage is characterized by an increased applied focus of research, driven by the demand for scientific reflection on the introduction of new technologies and the digitalization process in physical education and sports practices. The development demonstrates a periodic change of the emphasis — on the practical, technological or on the axiological aspects of sport analysis. A local analysis of publications on the sociocultural issues of physical education, presented in the journal “MCU Journal of Natural Sciences” (2020–2025) provides an insight into the specifics of reflecting general trends in the structure and content of the relevant thematic section, which allowed not only to conduct a stage-by-stage reflection on the development of this scientific field, but also to outline its possible trajectories of movement.
