Annotation
The relevance of this study stems from the insufficient geographical knowledge of the development of aerial tramways as a form of urban passenger transport in Moscow. This article examines the current status and prospects for the spatial development of aerial tramways in the capital. The purpose of the work is to analyze the relevance of the plans planned for 2019 for the construction of suspended cable cars in the metropolis, identify the advantages and disadvantages of this type of transport, and substantiate possible promising routes of suspended cable cars in different parts of the city. The research is based on official documents on planning the development of the Moscow transport system; scientific publications describing the Russian and foreign experience in the construction of suspended cable cars; own local history research; cartographic materials. The main research methods are analytical, comparative geographical, cartographic. The results of the study confirmed the prospects and importance of implementing most of the previously planned projects for the construction of suspended cable cars in the metropolis, identifying objective reasons for the irrelevance of some of these projects; the author’s justification for the construction f three suspended cable cars in different parts of Moscow in addition to existing projects.
