Annotation

The relevance of this study is determined by the need to conceptualize the role of Moscow City University in supplying geography teachers to educational institutions in Moscow, in order to substantiate the strategy for the university’s further development in this area. In this context, the present article aims to identify spatial patterns in the distribution of employment locations chosen by geography teachers who graduated from Moscow City University, to assess the level of staffing provision, and to examine the factors and challenges shaping the spatial dynamics of geography teacher provision across Moscow’s administrative districts and sub-districts. The main research methods include a survey, which made it possible to identify the factors influencing geography teachers’ job location choices; statistical and cartographic analysis, which enabled the examination of territorial patterns in the distribution of Moscow City University geography graduates employed in schools across Moscow; and a modeling approach. The study reveals an overall positive trend in staffing provision over the past ten years. It is established that the majority of educational institutions employing Moscow City University geography graduates are concentrated in the Southern Administrative District, as well as in three Moscow districts — Gagarinsky, Kuntsevo, and Maryino. This distribution is explained by staffing competition, the locational characteristics of these areas, and the structure of the school network. The presented findings confirm the significant role of Moscow City University in supplying geography teachers to educational institutions in Moscow.
