Annotation
The article considers the features of the sport like the important part of the educational process at the institutions of secondary vocational education in the USSR
and modern Russia. It is shown that along the growing of popularity of this level of the educational system reflected in the statistical indicators of recent years, more and more attention is being paid to the development of a socio-cultural vector of work with students, including physical culture and sports activities as a tool for the socialization. Particular attention is paid to the importance of referring to the rich traditions which were accumulated in this field during the Soviet period including the knowledge of how various sports were popularized, what was the role of the teacher personality, and how various forms of promoting healthy lifestyle values were used in the educational space. The author considers these aspects of the problem observing the practice of the secondary vocational education institutions which are not specialized in the field of physical culture and sports. The concrete empirical basis for the analysis is one of the oldest educational organizations in the Moscow region, the technical college named after A. T. Tumanov (in Stupino town, Moscow oblast). We took it as an example of the institution where many traditions of socio-cultural
education were collected and are using in the modern process of education at the college. The author studied the archival materials provided by the management of the college in Stupino as well as materials from the personal archives and data collected in the process of interviews conducted by the author of the article.
